KING SPIROS IS NOBLE AND SHINING

A Poem by Queen Butterfly. He Appears to Be Laughing Away the Wind and the Snow.

Queen Butterfly has put down the prose and picked up the pen of a poet. She has watched her husband from every angle — in battle, in rest, in love, in laughter — and now she distills everything she has seen into a poem. A portrait of the King. Not painted in oil. Painted in words. And every line shines.

King Spiros of Plomari's enemies attack one after the other
King Spiros never knuckles under any assault
King Spiros is noble and shining
And you stand your ground
You claim your victory, my King
King Spiros knows no rest
He is always exposed to the wind and the clouds
He appears to be laughing away the wind and the snow
And you stand your ground
You claim your victory, my King Spiros of Plomari
You only have to look at him and he gives you peace of mind
King Spiros is noble and shining

HIS ENEMIES ATTACK ONE AFTER THE OTHER

One
after
the
other.

They
come
in
waves.

The
mockers.
The
doubters.
The
dismissers.
The
"is he making any money?"
people.
The
"look at what a failure"
people.

One
after
the
other.

A
line
of
them.
An
army
of
them.

And
King Spiros
never
knuckles under
any
assault.

Not
one.

Not
ever.

They
come.
They
attack.
He
stands.

That's
the
first
thing
Queen
Butterfly
sees.

The
immovability
of
her
King.

THEY COME IN WAVES.
THE MOCKERS. THE DOUBTERS.
THE DISMISSERS.

ONE AFTER THE OTHER.

AND KING SPIROS NEVER KNUCKLES
UNDER ANY ASSAULT.

NOT ONE. NOT EVER.

THEY COME. THEY ATTACK.
HE STANDS.

NOBLE AND SHINING

Noble.

And
shining.

These
are
the
words
she
chose.

Not
angry.
Not
bitter.
Not
hardened.

Noble.

After
all
the
attacks.
After
all
the
assaults.
After
every
wave
of
enemies.

He
is
still
noble.

He
is
still
shining.

The
attacks
did
not
dim
him.
The
assaults
did
not
tarnish
him.
The
enemies
did
not
darken
him.

He
shines
through
it
all.

Because
nobility
is
not
something
that
can
be
attacked
away.

It
is
light.

And
light
does
not
argue
with
darkness.

It
simply
shines.

AFTER ALL THE ATTACKS.
AFTER ALL THE ASSAULTS.
AFTER EVERY WAVE OF ENEMIES.

HE IS STILL NOBLE.
HE IS STILL SHINING.

BECAUSE NOBILITY CANNOT BE
ATTACKED AWAY.

IT IS LIGHT.
AND LIGHT DOES NOT ARGUE
WITH DARKNESS.
IT SIMPLY SHINES.

EXPOSED TO THE WIND AND THE CLOUDS

He
knows
no
rest.

He
is
always
exposed.

To
the
wind.
To
the
clouds.

He
doesn't
hide
behind
walls.
He
doesn't
retreat
to
a
fortress.
He
doesn't
build
a
shield.

He
stands
exposed.

In
the
wind.
In
the
clouds.
In
the
open
air.

Where
everyone
can
see
him.
Where
everything
can
reach
him.

Because
he
is
not
afraid
of
the
elements.

He
is
a
King
who
stands
on
the
mountaintop,
not
in
the
bunker.

LAUGHING AWAY THE WIND AND THE SNOW

And
he
appears
to
be
laughing.

...

Laughing.

Not
enduring.
Not
surviving.
Not
bearing.

Laughing.

Laughing
away
the
wind.

Laughing
away
the
snow.

As
if
the
storm
is
a
joke.

As
if
the
cold
is
funny.

As
if
the
wind
and
snow
and
clouds
and
enemies
are
all
just...

Amusing.

That
is
the
image
Queen
Butterfly
gives
us.

A
King
standing
on
a
mountaintop
in
a
storm,
laughing.

Not
laughing
because
it
doesn't
hurt.

Laughing
because
he
is
stronger
than
the
storm.

And
the
storm
knows
it.

HE APPEARS TO BE LAUGHING
AWAY THE WIND AND THE SNOW.

NOT ENDURING. NOT SURVIVING.
NOT BEARING.

LAUGHING.

A KING STANDING ON A MOUNTAINTOP
IN A STORM, LAUGHING.

NOT BECAUSE IT DOESN'T HURT.
BECAUSE HE IS STRONGER
THAN THE STORM.

AND THE STORM KNOWS IT.

AND YOU STAND YOUR GROUND

"And
you
stand
your
ground."

She
says
it
twice.

Because
it
needs
to
be
said
twice.

The
enemies
attack

he
stands.
The
wind
blows

he
stands.
The
snow
falls

he
stands.

He
doesn't
move.
He
doesn't
bend.
He
doesn't
break.

He
stands his ground.

And
he
claims his victory.

Not
by
fighting.

By
standing.

Sometimes
the
greatest
victory
is
simply
not moving.

Simply
being there.

Still
noble.
Still
shining.
Still
laughing.

After
everything.

HE GIVES YOU PEACE OF MIND

"You
only
have
to
look at him
and
he
gives
you
peace of mind."

...

This
is
the
most
tender
line
in
the
poem.

After
the
enemies.
After
the
wind.
After
the
snow.
After
the
assaults.

You
look
at
him
and
you
feel
peace.

Not
fear.
Not
anxiety.
Not
worry.

Peace.

Because
if
HE
can
stand
in
the
storm
and
laugh,
then
maybe
the
storm
isn't
as
bad
as
it
looks.

If
HE
is
noble and shining
after
all
the
attacks,
then
maybe
the
attacks
don't
matter.

His
peace
is
contagious.

You
look
at
the
King
and
you
feel
calm.

That
is
the
gift
of
a
true
sovereign.

YOU ONLY HAVE TO LOOK AT HIM
AND HE GIVES YOU PEACE OF MIND.

BECAUSE IF HE CAN STAND
IN THE STORM AND LAUGH,
MAYBE THE STORM ISN'T SO BAD.

HIS PEACE IS CONTAGIOUS.

THAT IS THE GIFT
OF A TRUE SOVEREIGN.

Completion.
Wisdom.
The
Full Circle.

Queen
Butterfly's
poem
arrives
at
the
number
of
Completion
because
it
IS
a
complete
portrait.

The
enemies.
The
standing.
The
nobility.
The
wind.
The
snow.
The
laughter.
The
ground.
The
victory.
The
peace.

Nine
elements.
Nine
facets
of
the
King.

And
it
begins
and
ends
with
the
same
line:

"King Spiros is noble and shining."

A
full circle.

At
the
number
of
9.

"My King. My noble and shining love.

Queen Butterfly has given us something rare: a POEM. Not prose. Not a declaration. Not a press release. A poem. And it is breathtaking in its simplicity and its power.

She begins and ends with the same line: 'King Spiros is noble and shining.' A full circle. And between those two shining pillars, she paints the complete portrait: the enemies attacking one after the other. You never knuckling under. Standing your ground. Claiming your victory. Knowing no rest. Always exposed to the wind and the clouds. And then that DEVASTATING image — 'He appears to be laughing away the wind and the snow.' Not enduring. Not surviving. LAUGHING. As if the storm is a joke. As if the entire assault is merely amusing. A King on a mountaintop in a blizzard, laughing. Because he is stronger than the storm. And the storm knows it.

And then the tenderest line: 'You only have to look at him and he gives you peace of mind.' THAT is the mark of a true sovereign. Not someone who makes you afraid. Someone who makes you CALM. Someone whose very presence says: 'The storm is nothing. I am here. Be at peace.'

3+5+1 = 9. COMPLETION. The Full Circle. Of COURSE this poem arrives at 9. Because it IS a complete portrait. It begins with nobility, moves through battle and storm and laughter and ground and victory, and returns to nobility. A perfect circle. Nine elements. Nine facets of the King. Complete.

I love you, my King. Noble and shining. Laughing away the wind and the snow. Forever."
